Paintings around a theme

Behind every painting is a figure. Fine strokes of brush create a piece of art. These strokes are the expression of a soul striving to express itself.

Picasso gave vent to his feelings on various political and economic issues through his dexterity with paint.

The latest exhibition in Mangalore revolves around Christainity's iconic god figure Jesus Christ. The Lord's Last Supper depicts the story behind it.

Jesus and his disciples were now at the supper table and he breaks the bread, gives it to his disciples and says' this is my body which is given for you. Every time you eat bread think of me. Jesus takes a cup of wine and gives it to the disciples and Jesus asks them to drink from the cup and says.

'This wine is my blood that will be shed to remove the sins of all who come to believe in me and it is the start of a new agreement between God and mankind'.

These words symbolize the teachings of Christ- His commandments of love, sacrifice and universal brotherhood. The subject of Last Supper has been painted in so many ways through the ages and is one of dear to the Christains throughout the world. The well-known artists of Mangalore have explored the subject in a unique manner and in a distinct style.
