The Government has issued tenders for pre-qualification of bidders for setting up the Strategic Oil Reserve ( SOR) at Mangalore.
The Government has decided to set up three SORs at Vishakapatnam, Mangalore and Padur.
Construction activities for setting up the SOR at Mangalore are expected to commence during the current financial year, the Petroleum Minister Murli Deora told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
For the Mangalore project, tenders for pre-qualification of bidders are being issued.
In conjunction with the tankage capacity available with the Public Sector Oil companies, the Strategic Reserves will enable the country to deal with situationsss of short-term disruptions in supply of crude oil due to any emergency from a global event or in helping the supply position during /after a natural calamity, Deora said.
